The Marangu route, also known as the “Coca-Cola” route, is the oldest, most well established route on Kilimanjaro.
This is the only route that provides sleeping huts in dormitory-style lodgings instead of camping. Mandara and Kibo Huts each have 60 bunk beds, while Horombo Hut has 120. Guests are given beds and pillows, but sleeping bags are still necessary. The huts contain shared dining halls and rudimentary restrooms, which range from flushing toilets and running water in the lower huts to lengthy drop toilets and buckets of water in Kibo Hut.
Many people prefer Marangu since it is considered the simplest way on the mountain due to its mild incline and straight route. However, the route’s short time constraint makes altitude adaptation challenging. The path approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the southeast. Unfortunately, Marangu is less picturesque than the other routes since the ascent and descent follow the same line. As a result, it is the busiest route.
Gayora tours offers Marangu as a 5 or 6 day private climb. The 5 day variation does not have an acclimatization day on day 3 at Horombo Hut.
